Based in Orkney, Scotland, EMEC is the world’s leading centre for testing wave and tidal energy converters at sea.
To date, more marine energy converters have been deployed at EMEC than at any other single site in the world.
Our infrastructure and know-how can help reduce the time, cost and risk in R&D programmes, allowing verification of technologies in some of the harshest marine environments.
EMEC are also pioneering the conversion of tidal energy to hydrogen, liberating constrained renewable energy for application as an alternative source of fuel, creating an increased demand for locally generated renewable energy.
Hydrogen is a new business venture for EMEC to overcome grid constraints within Orkney.
Products and Services
Beyond technology testing and verification, EMEC provides a wide range of consultancy and research services. EMEC is at the forefront in the development of international standards for marine energy, and is forging alliances with other countries, exporting its knowledge around the world to stimulate the development of a global marine renewables industry.
EMEC has the knowledge and infrastructure to convert and store renewable energy from wave, tidal and wind resources, and holds a breadth of knowledge and expertise in hydrogen applications to export around the world.
