Virtual Island Summit – 6th to 10th of October 2019

Island Innovation is organising the first ever Virtual Island Summit, which will take place from the 6th to the 10th of October 2019. One of the unique features of the event is that it will take place entirely online with the view to expand the opportunities for attendance and to minimise carbon emissions generated from travel. The aim of the event is to provide a digital platform, through which islands around the globe can connect and share ideas and solutions.

The Virtual Island Summit is a chance for participants to hear experts from the public sector, private sector and academia. In addition to the range of sectors, speakers come from various regions across the globe, so they will be able to offer perspectives from the Arctic, Caribbean, Europe, the Indian Ocean, Pacific Islands, South America and more. Aside from the planned expert talks, attendants will have opportunities for interactive sessions with both speakers and other attendees.

The talks that have been announced so far are:

  • Sustaining the Prosperity of Island Communities: Cultural Traditions and the Environmental Legacy
  • Enabling Policy Environments for Energy Storage: Global Practices, Challenges and Opportunities
  • Energy at the End of the World: An Orkney Islands Saga
  • Islandeering: Adventures Around the Edge of Britain’s Hidden Islands
